How patron data is used in NRE
From WCN
The following table describes the user details that are expected to be made available to NRE.
| Field | Requirement |
| ILS Barcode or Unique ID | Required |
| First name | Optional, but recommended |
| Last name | Optional, barcode will be used if not provided |
| Email address | Optional, but recommended |
| PTYPE/Patron Category | Optional, but recommended |
| Home Library Location | Required when applicable |
| Join/Registration date | Optional |
| Expiration date | Optional, requesting will not be allowed after this date if supplied |
| Banned from requesting | Optional, but recommended |
All of these details are stored in the NRE database. Only the NRE application and customer facing reporting tools have access to this database. No other processes are allowed to access this database for any reason.
[edit] A note about Home Library Locations
Home Library symbols are used to ensure the proper handling of requests in NRE. The patron's home library needs to be specified when NRE requesting is done by more than one library within an institution. Please consult your Navigator Implementation contact for more information.
[edit] A note about email address usage
Email addresses are used to send notifications/alerts to the requesting user.
Email addresses are stored in 2 separate places depending on how they have been submitted to NRE. When submitted via the authentication process (patron loads, EZproxy authentication) the email address becomes part of the patron record in the database.
When an email address is provided on the NRE Request form it becomes part of the request record.
If there is an email address in both the request and the user record then the address from the request record is used to provide alerts. The address from the request record is also used when it is the only address available.
If there is not an email address in the request record then the address from the user record is used to provide alerts.
If your institution does not take advantage of user notifications/alerts then there is no need to store the email address in the NRE database.
